Australian Stem Cell Debate Heats Up

Australian Stem Cell Debate Heats Up

In an article published in The Australian, senior Industry Minister Ian Macfarlane was quoted as saying that Australia was in danger of becoming an outsider in stem cell research if the current laws are not relaxed. Senator Ron Boswell, an opponent of embryonic stem cell research, was quoted as saying that adult stem cells were already shown to differentiate into various organ cells and research should be focused there instead of on embryonic stem cell research. Federal parliamentarians will take part in a forum next week to examine stem cell issues.
