International Stem Cell Happenings

International Stem Cell Happenings

An international conference on stem cells is taking place in Singapore, with approximately 500 scientists and researchers participating. I haven’t found any details of the research to be discussed released yet. The article on the conference is available on the English language version of the Chinese news source Xinhua.

The Indian newspaper The Hindu reported that “Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare, Anbumani Ramadoss, held discussions with policy-makers and science-administrators in Singapore and South Korea on the prospects for collaboration in the area of stem-cell research.” According to the article, India would like to become a hub for stem cell research.

The 8th Annual Tissue Engineering Society International Conference and Exhibition just concluded in Shanghai, China. The program included a number of presentations on stem cells, scaffolding, and on particular forms of tissue (skin, bone, and so on). The only news release I have seen so far from the conference was on a Cytori Therapeutics study where adipose stem and regenerative cells restored blood flow. A second study indicated that these cells spontaneously generated new capillaries.
