There's a good article on stem cell research, history, and policy called "Stem Cell Research: Medical Miracle or Moral Morass?" that appears in the Gotham Gazette. It focuses on stem cell research as it applies to the state of New York but it provides a good overview and links to other sources. It also has some really good images. If you are wanting to educate yourself a little more about stem cells, this is recommended reading.
I have a BA in liberal arts with advanced degrees in writing and literature. I've long been interested in how science is represented in literature (including but not limited to science fiction) and other media, and in the ethical and social implications of scientific movements. I've written several academic articles on racial identity in science fiction and also done some work on Darwin in literature. 3 favorite novels relating science to past historical periods: The Voyage of The Narwhal, by Andrea Barrett; Angels and Insects, by A.S. Byatt (the first novella, Morpho Eugenia); and, less stikingly but still a great book, The Mannikin, by Joanna Scott.

A fellow blogger and I think that this picture of an embryonic stem cell is rather artistic, much better than the usual round circle graphics we usually see :). Perhaps we can keep a lookout for any interesting science-photo exhibitions that come up in future.
