The End to a Quiet Week
The End to a Quiet Week
Today is just as quiet news-wise as the rest of the week has mostly been. The BBC had an article about a woman who will undergo the controversial stem cell treatment in the Netherlands for multiple sclerosis—this is a hot topic in British papers right now. There’s a smattering of news involving neural cells; a press release from a few days ago reports that a Japanese team working with British scientists has been able to derive neural cells from mouse embryonic stem cells. (This is different from the recent study in which neural cells were derived from bone marrow stem cells.) Also, a research team in Spain is going to begin an study of neural stem cells and the generation of neurons in mice. The press release says they hope to identify the conditions and genes responsible for neuron differentiation.
That’s about it for now. I’ll let you know if anything interesting happens later on today.
